A custom ScooterHaul is doable, at a price that's affordable.
There are some things that you want to think about:
1) What make, model, and year car will this be going on? The auto manufacturer
determines what capacity the car can safely carry. Some small hitch installers
will modify a hitch, for instance: they will take a class 1 hitch and modify
it to accept a 2", class 3 drawbar. While they have enabled you to
carry a heavier load, they haven't (and usually CAN'T) modify the automobile
to carry this heavier load. The car will be overloaded and parts will fail
over time.
We follow the lead of U-Haul Corp. in this regard. If they will build and
install a hitch of a certain capacity, then their engineers have ascertained
that this load is safe on this car. If U-Haul makes a class 1 (200# tongue
weight) hitch available, you can use a ScooterHaul that utilizes this capacity,
and not more. If U-Haul will install a class 3 hitch (500# tongue weight),
then you can use a ScooterHaul that utilizes this higher capacity.
The end result? At least call U-Haul (800-664-5017) and see what capacity
they recommend for your car. While we cannot guarantee the work of U-Haul,
they WILL (Lifetime guarantee for $5 additional)
2) We'll custom build anything that you want, any size, any configuration.
It's up to you to know that this will fit your needs. We cannot offer a
30 day trial on custom built equipment. On custom work, we'll ask for full
payment up front. Make sure of any special dimensions when placing your
order. It's usually very difficult (expensive) to modify a ScooterHaul that's
been fabricated and sent to you. For this reason, refunds are not given
on customized sales.
3) Let us know what dimensions and weight the ScooterHaul is to carry, we'll
quote a custom built to fulfill your needs. We have done this before, to
our customer's satisfaction.
